This blog began as Facebook notes - a challenge to myself to take, post, and write about a photograph a day. In turn, this grew out of a research project on "Writing and Photography" - that morphed into "Flash! Photography, Writing, and Surprising Illumination." I found that I preferred taking photographs and writing about them in this short and experimental form to researching the topic.Where Did We Go Wrong?2 Lefts Turns, Rites To Stand. Donkeys Dates In Fields.

Love and hate horns of a goat. Love and devotions from a man for a women, gifts of the old souls floating here today, gone tomorrow. Lessons to learn, about the fun and games in the minds and hearts of the young at heart. Fairies, pixies, earth angels, bikers from New York, gifts of songs and dances for a better daze. The writing functions in part as an experiment in autobiography, drawing on the relationship between photography, memory, and association. But it's also linked to pedagogy: in the spring of 2009, I taught an undergraduate course on "Writing and Photography" that determined, from time to time, the direction taken by the entries. Over time - FTBL is now on its eighth year - it's turned into an art project: when I've (I hope!) photographed and written daily for ten years, I'm going to write about and analyze the whole experience.
